शाही  गुप्ता राजवंश के राजा, भगवान विष्णु के भक्त थे इसलिए उन्होंने गरुड़ को अपने शाही प्रतीक चिन्ह के रूप में अपनाया। थेरियोमोफिक रूप(एक विशालकाय रूप) में गरुड़, चंद्रगुप्त द्वितीय, कुमारगुप्त प्रथम और स्कंदगुप्त के चांदी के सिक्कों पर और चंद्रगुप्त द्वितीय और कुमारगुप्त प्रथम के कुछ तांबे के सिक्कों पर भी पाया जाता है। गरुड़ पक्षी को "गरुड़-विथ-स्ट्रेच्ड-विंग्स" प्रकार के सोने के सिक्कों पर भी देखा जाता है। लेकिन चंद्रगुप्त द्वितीय के कुछ सिक्कों पर गरुड़ के मानव हाथ हैं। इस शासक के कुछ तांबे के सिक्कों पर गरुड़ का शरीर एक पक्षी का लेकिन चेहरा एक आदमी का है।
गरुड़-के साथ-कू-प्रकार: तांबे के सिक्के, इस प्रकार के तांबे के सिक्के कुमारगुप्त प्रथम द्वारा जारी किए गए थे। इस प्रकार के सिक्कों के सामने की ओर एक अर्धचंद्र है, जिसके नीचे ब्राह्मी अक्षर "कू" है। और पीछे की ओर एक गरुड़ होता है, जो एक कुरसी पर पंख फैलाये  विराजमान  है।

Imperial guptas were devout worshipeers of Vishnu so they adopted the garuda as their royal insignia. the garuda in theriomophic form occurs on the silver coins of Chandragupta II , Kumargupta I and Skandgupta and also on some copper coins of Chandragupta II and Kumargupta I . the bird is also seen on the " garuda-with-outstretched-wings" type of gold coins. but on certain coins of Chandragupta II, the garuda has human hands. on some copper coins of this ruler, the garuda has the body of a bird but the face of a man.
garuda- with-ku- type: copper coins, this type of copper coins were issued by kumargupta I . the front side has a crescent, with the brahmi letter "ku" below it. the back side bears a garuda with outstretched wings on a pedestal.
