Iranian miniature paintings are an important part of Iranian art which is an abstract and heavenly art. In this art the artist distances himself from the materialistic world . The colours used in Iranian miniature painting especially gold and dark turquoise blue are not simply derived from the artist brain but are the result of seeing an identical reality which belongs to this examplary world.

Iranian painting have lately been very much recognized by art experts and admirers, goes back to 7000 years ago. Some researchers believe that painting in Iran dates back as far back as the Acheamanid era. In archaeological expeditions, extensive cave paintings were discovered in Lurestan like that of hunting scenes and animals are most frequent  painted subjects, more murals found  on the mound of Fahlian Fars are the oldest examples of this art in Iran . There are many minature paintings depicting various famous love stories also like that of Yusuf and Zuleikha, Khosro and Shirin and the most famous and known Majnu and Laila .
